Modeling tips from NY model Demetria Cazz

To all Girls, the best advice that I have received in the modeling industry is “Wake Up, Dress Up, and Show Up”. Those few words have stuck with me throughout the years and have been the help that I needed to get through this.

For those of you starting out the model industry is brutal. I have been told throughout the years, “you are too short, too ugly, too skinny, too fat, you need to be a brunette, you need to cut your hair, grow your hair, whiten your teeth, lose some more weight even though you are a size 2”. Those are just a few, and I can go on. Your self esteem will be questioned at times and some days you will look yourself in the mirror and even question yourself. DO NOT LET THEM GET TO YOU

I am a successful petite model that has had many struggles throughout the years, but I have managed to get myself to the point that the industry recognizes my name, by not allowing my self to quit. I never let anyone or anything get to me, yes I was told many times that I was not the person they were looking for, but I kept moving on. One day I would be the girl they needed and wanted to represent them.

I had met a local photographer that created a yearly calendar of motorcycles. We had become friends and had asked me to be in his calendar, I was chosen to be Miss February. The owner of the bike that was being promoted in February thought that I was not the girl for him and he refused to use his bike in the calendar, Luke the photographer kept insisting this is your girl. I was used in the calendar, I was not used for Miss February, but I was Miss October with another motorcycle. It turned out that October was the best picture in the magazine and had sold over 2800 copies of the calendar in less than 24 hours. It broke sales for the company that year. My picture was the one used for all the promotions, and so many more owner of motorcycles wanted to be featured with me the next year. Moral of the story, never give up. From that point on my career started.
Take action, nothing works unless you do something about it. If you plan to become a model or anything else you want, today is the best time to start.

Some advice for girls starting out:
You need great pictures and a professional portfolio
You need to get some composite cards made up
Create a basic website
Find a legitimate modeling agency- an agency will not ask for money to represent you, use your common sense
Work with a few local photographers as trade for pictures it’s called TFP
Google everyone that you come across, you should always know who you are working with

In the meantime you have to concentrate on you:
Build your self confidence
Work out- you need a healthy body
Set Goals for yourself and go after them
Resist Peer pressure- stay drug and alcohol free
Always be yourself, do not let anyone take that away from you
Do not just be another pretty face, stick out, it’s ok to be different.

I never quit my day job; I never quit school, pick up as many trades as you can, you never know what the future may hold. My education has helped me in so many ways in this industry. I am a pretty face with a brain, and a degree.

But most importantly of all, stay true to yourself. Be specific about what type of work you are looking for and stick to your gut feelings, it always helped me down the right path.

My name is Demetria Cazz, born and raised in NY.

Both my parents are Greek, so I speak, read and write Greek and English fluently. I majored in Criminal Procedure, and I have always loved the courtroom. My modeling career started when I was 11 years old, and I have been able to establish myself as a successful petite model. I have had several different print ads, in magazines, newspapers, calendars, and catalogs. I also had entered several different pageants and won many of them. My life is full of surprises and I love every second of it.

On Friday 3/18/11 I had the pleasure of Photographing Demetria at the Nassau County Museum in Roslyn, NY. We couldn't have asked for a better day. 70 degrees and sunny. I used two cameras for our session, my Nikon D3 with a 70-200 F2.8 lens and Nikon D300 with the 85mm f1.4 lens. This was my first opportunity to try out the Pocket Wizard Mini 1TTL and the Flex 5 along with a Plus ll. I had one SB-800 in a Apollo Softbox with the Flex set in TTL Mode and an SB-900 in manual mode with no light modifier. With out any line of site issues I was able to place the lights behind objects that had given me problems in the past. So here are some images from that day.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FALL 2011: Staple Neutrals with a Splash of Bright Colors!

I know what your thinking! - We're barely through these brisk wintery days. Our minds are no where near wrapped around our spring wardrobe and yet it's already the time of year where world's best designers reveals what they think we should be wearing for fall? Well, you got that right! To all the fashion enthusiasts who questions "What are The COLORS for Autumn?" Read up! Know which colors to rock. Pantone has released its Fashion Colors for Fall 2011.

Earthy, cool autumnal shades of warm toasty browns, pale olive and greyish lavender flooded the runways while there were bright hues of teal, bamboo yellow, blush pink and dark purple. It's a fabulous and not entirely a typical Fall/Winter palette, which is what we'll need to make things a little more lively for everyone this fall!

Famous designers such as Michael Kors, Dennis Basso and BCBG have recently revealed their wear for Fall/Winter 2011. Michael Kors showed the epitome of American class and elegance. While Basso and BCBG exhibited class and sophistication - all using black, grey and different shades of nude tones.

"Her collection was stunning, it clearly defines modern elegance. Definitely one of the top shows of the week." - Nicholas Toscano, Celebrity Cosmetic Dentist and Surgeon who attended the Elene Cassis show. Inspired by the Manhattan skyline, Elene Cassis kept her black-and-white asymmetric block signature pieces followed by grey, wine, nutmeg tones that she later incorporated into her line.

Herve Leger's Bohemian inspired fantasy and G-Star's groovy disco decade collection revealed shades of olive, bamboo rust.

Where as Rebecca Taylor brought femininity to the stage using flowy chiffon fabrics and floral details. Ms. Taylor always uses the most unique colors. This year she threw in deep teal, magenta, icy pearl grey, and dusty lavenders. Her style has a sublime vintage vibe to it. Almost feels like a dreamy day relaxing under La Tour Eiffel.

LAMB by Gwen Stefani, TIBI and Betsey Johnson bumped their patterns and tones to pretty much every color on the palette.

The glitz and glam was topped off by Farah Angsana's show-stopping gowns. She played around with her hues using; silver, gold, grey, purple, gingerbread spice tones. Each of his red carpet looks was covered in some type of embellishment -- sequins, beading, embroidery or fur. "Farah's red carpet dresses were impeccable, and possibly a sensation to watch of all fashion week." - Michael Tillery, head Fashion Photographer of Runway Weekly.

Boudoir and Art Nude Workshop

Yesterday, Saturday Jan. 29th Boudoir and Art Nude workshop was extremely successful. We had a full house of 35 photographers taking part and two excellent models, Patricia Cajuste and Veronica Rosa.

Tips for Beautiful Hair by Laurence Yang

What I used here was Avalon Shampoo & Conditioner and Giovanni's leave-in conditioner after my hair was cleaned. I let it air dry in a high messy bun until slightly dried. When slightly damp, I scrunched it with Giovanni's Natural Mousse and when fully dried I sprayed Giovanni's Finishing Mist leaving it soft, sexy and silky.

Camille Reicherter

I contacted Camille for a photo workshop in Central Park this spring sponsored by FJ Westcott, B&H Photo and Canon. She was 1 of 6 models I made arrangements with to pose that day.

Needless to say she was a big hit with all the photographers and the sponsors.

I not only had the opportunity to photographer her again, but also hired her to retouch a wedding shoot for Complete Concepts Photography, of which I'm co-founder. Not only is she a professional model and retoucher but she is also a designer and is creating Comp Cards like myself for models.
